I thought as I began using tumblr that It was a great avenue to begin writing again.  I used to love to write but as I grew up and live took over more of my time, the writing stopped.  I hope to get back into writing and hone my skills so that I can write like I once did.

I was watching a film the other day and and it made me quite reflective.  The film was titled Love Actually.  It opened with a monolog and a series of videos of people meeting each other at an airport.  As I watched the video of people saying hello and goodbye I was pulled back to a recent trip when I had to say goodbye to my wife Denice and my daughter Sidney.  I remember the feeling as I drove away from the house and felt the fear that something would happen on the trip, the guilt that I decided to take the trip at all and the underlying love that I felt for De and Sid.  All that was important to me was those two girls.  

It is funny how easily we can lose sight of what is important in life as the day to day struggles of live envelope your consciousness.  I am a principal and thus have many issues to deal with.  Weather is it work of taking care of the house, the laundry or dishes, it all seems to be pressing and important at the time. But it comes back to De and Sid.  The time I spend with them is the only thing that matters.  Family time.  How do  we keep sight of that?  

In the movie love is messy and does not always work out the way you think it should.  Much like life.  It is so important to keep a focus on that think that is most important to us.  For me it is family.  Hard to believe as so little of my time is dedicated to family as the pulls of work and life take so much time.  I try… I struggle… I attempt to shift my focus back each time I notice that life has taken over.  

As I watched the movie I saw many people who had lost sight o what was important and I say a boy and his father in two very different places.  The boy struggled with his first love and the father had just lost his wife.  The father encouraged his son to throw caution to the wind and chase his love.  He helped is son see that this was the most important thing and that you must pursue love no matter what you think the outcome might be.  

Love is actually messy, simple, complex and confounding but it is the best feeling that we can all experience in our life and we need to focus on that feeling when we are pulled in too many directions.

Wow!  Talk about car pool.
